Introducing Three Pines Charitable Association: Turning Relief into Resilience

Across many communities in Cameroon, crisis and recovery have become a repeating cycle. When emergencies occur—whether driven by conflict, economic hardship, displacement, or environmental shocks—humanitarian support often arrives to meet immediate needs. This assistance is essential. It saves lives and restores dignity in moments of vulnerability.

Yet once the emergency passes, many communities remain exposed to the next shock. Livelihoods remain fragile, local institutions weak, and access to essential services uneven. Too often, short-term relief addresses symptoms without reducing the deeper vulnerabilities that make crises so damaging in the first place.

Three Pines Charitable Association was created in response to this gap.

The Problem We Seek to Address

Across the humanitarian and development landscape, a persistent divide exists between emergency response and long-term development. Humanitarian actors focus on saving lives during crises, while development initiatives often operate separately, working toward longer-term improvements in livelihoods and infrastructure.

The result is that communities frequently move from one intervention to another without experiencing the sustained support necessary to build resilience. Immediate needs may be addressed, but the underlying conditions that create vulnerability—limited livelihoods, fragile institutions, and inadequate services—remain largely unchanged.

Three Pines was established with a simple but deliberate goal: to help communities move beyond crisis by linking relief efforts with pathways to resilience and self-reliance.

Our Mission and Vision

Three Pines Charitable Association is a Cameroon-based non-profit humanitarian and development organisation working to reduce vulnerability and strengthen community resilience.

Our mission is to advance inclusive development and humanitarian action by connecting emergency response with sustainable, community-led solutions that strengthen local systems and reduce long-term vulnerability.

Our vision is a future in which communities across Cameroon are resilient, self-reliant, and able to thrive with dignity despite the social, economic, and environmental challenges they face.

What We Aim to Do

Three Pines focuses on integrated interventions that support communities across the transition from crisis to stability. Our work centres on five programme areas:

  • Humanitarian assistance and early recovery, ensuring timely support for households affected by crises while laying the groundwork for recovery.

  • Community resilience and adaptation, strengthening the ability of communities to anticipate and withstand shocks.

  • Livelihoods and skills development, creating pathways for income security and economic inclusion.

  • Access to basic services, supporting community access to education, health, water, sanitation, and essential infrastructure.

  • Community capacity and local institutions, strengthening grassroots organisations and leadership structures that sustain development gains.

Together, these efforts aim to reduce the conditions that allow crises to deepen vulnerability.

Our Approach

Three Pines works at the intersection of humanitarian response and long-term development. We believe that assistance should not stop at addressing immediate needs; it should also strengthen the foundations that enable communities to build stable and resilient futures.

Our approach is guided by three principles.

First, community leadership. Communities are not passive beneficiaries but partners in identifying priorities and shaping solutions.

Second, locally grounded partnerships. We work alongside civil society organisations, faith-based institutions, local authorities, and development partners to ensure that interventions reflect local realities and strengthen existing systems.

Third, accountability and learning. We prioritise responsible stewardship of resources, transparent governance, and continuous learning to improve effectiveness over time.

Looking Ahead

Three Pines begins its journey as an emerging organisation committed to building its work deliberately—piloting integrated interventions, learning from experience, and scaling approaches that demonstrate lasting impact.

The challenges facing vulnerable communities are complex, and no single organisation can address them alone. Progress will require partnerships, shared learning, and sustained commitment.

Three Pines aims to contribute to this collective effort by focusing on what often goes missing: the transition from relief to resilience.
